You have to be fit to make it all the way from the valley up to Fiescheralp! But the climb through the idyllic forest, past picturesque Valais houses, is well worth the effort.

The snowshoe hike starts on valley floor, in Fiesch. The path winds in tight serpentines through the snow-covered forest up to Fiescherstafel. After an ascent that requires quite some stamina, the beautifully situated, idyllic hamlet invites you to take a well-deserved breather with tremendous views. Here you leave the forest behind you. Parallel to the Heimatt piste, the snowshoe tour now continues uphill over open terrain to your destination on Fiescheralp.

Author’s recommendation

With its quaint Valais houses, Fiescherstafel is a unique spot for a break and some photos. Especially as snowshoes make it look like the olden days.

Safety information

Winter sports report

  • Plan each mountain tour carefully and adapt it to your own conditions, the weather and the season.
  • The weather in the mountains can change quickly, so make sure you have suitable clothing and sufficient food and water with you. If the weather is unsafe, don’t wait too long to turn back.
  • Let someone else know that you are doing the tour and if possible never go alone.
  • Do not leave marked trails and do not go onto glaciers without a mountain guide.
  • Walking on the ski slopes is prohibited.
  • Be considerate of other hikers, plants and animals.
  • Always find out about the local avalanche situation

Note(s)
The altitude and the route mean that good footwear is absolutely essential for this winter hike.

The snowshoe trails can be tackled without a mountain guide. Beware: they are not prepared in any way and are not controlled daily; nor are they secured from natural hazards such as avalanches or rockfalls. For safety, check the weather forecast and current avalanche bulletin. Use of the trails is at your own risk!
