Rothorn (Lämmeren)
The Rothorn is located at the most south-westerly corner of the Plaine Morte glacier. Seen from Crans Montana, it is a striking spike, but from the glacier it seems rather inconspicuous compared to the Wildstrubel, the highest peak in the area. Those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle on Wildstrubel will find mountain solitude and a far-reaching view of the 4000-metre peaks of the Valais on the Rothorn. The Rothorn is a beginner-friendly summit. After crossing the flat and crevasse-free Plaine Morte glacier, a gently sloping summit slope awaits. The return is somewhat difficult, with the climb back up to the Plaine Morte mountain station. But then there are almost 1400 metres of slope down to Crans Montana. The tour has few metres of ascent, but there are many flat kilometres on the glacier, which is why you should not underestimate the time required.
