A beautiful and varied trail through Rhone Valley for experienced hikers
If you love variety, this wonderful but physically demanding day trip is just the thing for you. The route through the numerous villages and hamlets on both sides of the Rhone Valley is full of new things to discover. Descents, leisurely passages and climbs - some on the demanding side - also make the tour a real technical treat.
Each of the idyllic mountain villages is a fine place to have a break.
Best time of year
There are gradients of up to 20 %. Besides, you have to overcome more than 1200 m in height over a length of 40 km. Therefore, we only revommend it to experienced mountain bikers.
Starting from the tourist office in Fiesch, follow the road out of the village and turn right towards Birchi shortly after the roundabout. Ride past the holiday resort and continue through Wiler and Lax until you reach Martisbergerstrasse. This is where the first major climb begins: follow the tightly winding road up the mountain to Martisberg. At the end of the village, turn onto the forest road that runs westwards across to Betten. Once you've crossed the idyllic Valais village, you can relax on the descent to Mörel. At the bottom, cross to the other side of the valley in Filet and ride the asphalt road up to Bister and onwards to Grengiols along the signposted cycle route. Once you reach the village, follow the path the branches off to the right by the sports ground. Ride uphill along the path to the Hockmatta and continue on the signposted cycle path towards the Binn Valley. This section includes gradients of up to 20%, though these only last for a short time and the following descent to the Binna river offers a brief respite from your efforts. Once you cross the old Roman bridge, the next but also the final demanding climb lies ahead: a steep dirt track leading up to the Binntalstrasse. Now it's time to take on the descent to Ernen. Down in the village, turn left by the church and cross the Ernerfeld to the power station. Turning sharply to the right, continue across country to the power station and cross the Rhone bridge. The final stretch of the tour runs along Furkastrasse back to Fiesch.
