Mountainbike lap for well trained bikers
There are some major altitude differences to overcome on this tour, so you'll need to be in good shape to take on the route in its original version, leading up from Fiesch to the Gletscherstube restaurant in the Märjela valley. Bikers are richly rewarded for their efforts, not only with a beautiful and easily negotiable route along forest and Alpine roads, but also with magnificent views of the glaciers. The good news is, there are a number of variants to make the tour attractive to bikers who aren't quite as fit.
Don't forget to plan a short walk from the Gletscherstube to the "Platta"! From here you can enjoy a stunning view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, the biggest ice stream in the Alps.

The tour starts by the tourist office in Fiesch, with some relatively flat terrain on the way towards Lax via Wiler where you can warm up. This is the start of the big climb: more precisely, the 12 km long and mostly unpaved Alpine and forest road that winds its way tightly through the woods and later across the meadows to Fiescheralp. After this section you'll have covered an impressive altitude difference of 1,200 metres, so most of the climbing is already behind you. From Fiescheralp, the route continues past the cable car station and towards Märjela along an Alpine road 6 km long. The gradients are very moderate on this section of the route and once you reach Obers Tälli, you'll enjoy a magnificent view of the Fiescher Glacier. The final stage leads through the illuminated Tälligrat tunnel straight to the Gletscherstube restaurant, where you can regain your strength with some Valais specialities.
Tour variants:
If you want to avoid the exhausting climb from Fiesch to Fiescheralp, take the cable car to Fiescheralp and start the tour from there. Alternatively, you can cycle there from Riederalp or Bettmeralp.
Take the train from the station in Brig to Fiesch.
Drive from Brig to Fiesch on the road 19.
