Along the Blackwater and the Sense

From Schwarzenburg you first go down towards Grasburg. A stairway takes you up to the outer castle and on to the main castle. A metal ladder leads up about 700 m into the Hohenstaufen Imperial Castle and then down onto a path that is not marked on the map. Again you descend steeply via stairs. After the rock gate, take the better path southwards around the castle rock and up to the picnic area. It goes down on a narrow path to the Harrissteg. Cross the bridge and descend to the stony bank. Now you ford the Sense for about 1.5 km until you reach the bridge of Ruchmühle on the left bank. Cross the bridge and keep left. Now you "water-walk" again for about 2 km. On the right bank you meet a path that leads to the confluence with the Schwarzwasser, where you pass under the suspension bridge. You wade through the water for the last time to save yourself the long diversions to the bridge in the Schwarzwasser ditch. Then it's along the right bank of the Sense on the hiking trail past the buffalo rock to Thörishaus.

Recommended in summer and in good weather conditions as you wade through the river bed. There may be closures in the Sensegraben during the bird nesting season.
