Turn-by-turn directions
The route starts in the village of Entlebuch. A little outside the village, you take the turn for Rengg, after which it is a climb until you have reached the Rengg. At the top you are rewarded with all-round views of the Entlebuch hills and the Lucerne hinterland. You can also see mighty wind turbines from here: these giants are the new landmarks of this municipality. Their height and power are something to be wondered at. Entlebuch municipality is turning its attention to the topic of energy, which is why you will encounter a number of energy-related projects on this tour. For instance, not far from the Rengg on Mettilimoos Moor and in Wissenegg, thousands of tonnes of turf were removed from the ground during the two World Wars and used to stoke the ovens of companies instead of coal. The tools that were used to cut the turf are on display in turf huts. Take your shoes and socks off – you can walk around in trenches containing beneficial moorland mud and water. The moors are now protected. After the Rengg, the tour descends to Schachen – Werthenstein and Wolhusen. In Wolhusen there follows another ascent to Doppleschwand. From here the tour takes you via Habschwanden and Hasle back to Entlebuch. The village is home to highly recommended gastro-partners of the Entlebuch Biosphere – the Bahnhöfli and Landgasthof Drei Könige.
