Jurassic Tour I
Cycling
· France
difficult
Distance 156.7 km
The tour leads from Zwingen first over the Jura passes Passwang and Schelten before we approach Delémont through the Val Terbi. In Vicques, the new church built in 1958-60 is worth a short stop.
From Delémont we ride to the sources of the Sorne, first through the wide valley floor to Bassecourt, then through the narrow and impressive Gorge du Pichoux and through a lovely high valley to the monastery of Bellelay (founded in 1136), which claims the label of the "Tête de Moine" cheese. A loop via Lajoux and a little road across Jura pastures brings us to Montfaucon, from where we follow the Mediterranean/North Sea watershed via the "Caquerelle" to Lucelle and then finish the tour along the Lützel and Birs rivers.
Note(s)
The tour leads mainly over CH soil, but in the Lucelle - Kleinlützel section along the CH/F border, whereby the road is partly on French soil: therefore please take identification papers and observe customs regulations.
Variant A leads from Laufen over short stretches on the same road as the original tour in the last part, but in the opposite direction. Waypoint info in this section refers to the final part of the original tour.
