The history of the castle began in 1760, when the then reigning Count von Öttingen- Soetern had a family seat built at the foot ofthe old Dagstuhl Castle.

ruins of the karlsberg castleThe castle complex, built between 1778 and 1788 by Charles II August, the Duke of Zweibrücken, spreads over the whole mountain ridge of the "Karlsberg". In 1793 it was plundered and burned by French revolutionary troops. Its partially impressive ruins still witness the former dimensions of the castle and the accompanying parks and gardens. The 3 ponds ("Schwanenweiher") in the valley of the "Karlslust" together with the fountains and baroque, bizarre creations formed a magical landscape. Die Burg wurde 1285 durch Ritter Bossel vom Stein erbaut. Mehrmals zerstört, nach 1804 als Steinbruch genutzt, ist von der Burg nicht viel übrig geblieben. Erhalten ist der 20 m hohe Bergfried, von dem man einen herrlichen Ausblick hat. Die Burg bietet auf dem Burgplateau ein reizvolles Ambiente für Feste aller Art, von Hochzeitsfeiern und privaten Festen bis hin zum Burgsommer mit seinen Events. Im Burgkeller können Trauungen durchgeführt werden.
